What: A special performance opportunity for students of CAPMT (California Association of Professional Music Teachers District 2) members. It is open to all instruments and voice.
Purpose: To celebrate the music and composers of the Baroque period with a variety of instruments and singers; to provide a performance opportunity featuring music of the Baroque Era; and to introduce students and the audience to lesser-known works and composers of the Baroque period.
Qualifications: We welcome vocalists and all instruments, either in solo or ensemble performances. Solos are encouraged to be performed from memory with the exception of organ, harpsichord, strings, brass, and woodwinds. There will be no limit to the number of students participating from each studio, but no more than 8 students from an individual studio may perform in any one recital. A student may perform as a soloist, as an ensemble member, or both. A separate entry fee is required for each person in an ensemble, however, if a student participates in both solo and an ensemble they will only pay one fee.
Repertoire: Any repertoire from the Baroque Period (1600-1750) may be performed. Baroque composers will be defined as those listed in the Royal Conservatory of Music Syllabus at each level. Multiple movements from a suite or works such as a prelude and fugue may be performed. Repeats should not be played unless ornamented differently. Da capo repeats are permitted but should be included in duration calculations. Playing time must be stated accurately in minutes and seconds. Pieces should include catalogue numbers. For example, pieces by J.S. Bach must include a BWV number and pieces by Scarlatti must include a K number. Pieces should be listed on the registration form as follows: Minuet in G major, BWV Anh 116.
Entry Fee: $20 per student for each performance; Playing time should not exceed 6 minutes.
Work Schedule: All teachers who enter students will be expected to work at the festival. Teachers who enter a large number of students may be required to work at more than one recital.
Procedure: Recital will be held on Saturday February 8 at 2:30 p.m. If CAPMT receives a large number of entrants, an additional recital will be held at 4:00 p.m. Students will perform in a recital setting and will receive a Certificate of Performance. Piano students will be encouraged to perform by memory. Instrumentalists and vocalists will need to provide their own accompanist. NO PHOTOCOPIES are allowed. At the end of each recital, performers will receive their certificate.
Registration: Online registration for the Baroque Festival will begin in December 2024 and will close on January 15, 2025. The level should be the level of the piece, not the level of the student. Please check that all pieces have been entered with correct spelling and format. Siblings wishing to perform in the same recital must be entered on the registration form by checking the box and entering the siblings name on each student’s registration form for cross referencing. An entry fee should be paid for each student performing in the ensemble. Email [email protected] with any special instructions such as two students playing a duet, students performing in an ensemble, etc. Click here to register.
Parent Consent Agreement: A Parent Consent Agreement must be signed prior to the event. A link to the parent consent agreement will be sent to teachers in January.
Payment: After registering students online, payment will be processed via PayPal.
